The Kyjev Hotel is housed in a 14-storey tower block, which is not very prepossessing but does offer excellent city views from its rooms. The somewhat gloomy, medium sized lobby features dark marble floors and a seating area composed of brown and black furnishings. The 185 guestrooms are decorated in a strongly retro style, which may be too kitsch for some tastes. They are maintained in only fair condition, as are the tiled en suite bathrooms. There’s a spacious restaurant on the ground floor serving international cuisine. The hotel also offers a Continental style buffet breakfast every morning. Though inexpensive, the Kyjev is an plausible choice only for travellers who would like a throw back to Soviet-era Eastern Europe.
